Vegetarian Action is a supporter-based
organisation. This means that our existence and our activities are
funded by people who share our vision and support what we do.

| Why support Vegetarian
Action? |
Top |
Vegetarian Action is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to
promoting vegetarianism as an ethical, humane, healthy and ecologically
sustainable way of life.
Vegetarian Action is run by volunteers. We receive no funding from
government or corporate sources. This allows us to remain independent
and to promote vegetarianism as widely as possible, regardless of
whether this fits with government or other agendas.
This also means that donations from supporters are crucial in allowing
us to do what we do.
If you believe in Vegetarian Action, why not become a supporter?
It has benefits for you, and helps keep Vegetarian Action going.
Supporters are people who, through their financial support
each year, help Vegetarian Action to promote vegetarianism.

Where does your money go?

Vegetarian Action's streamlined administrative structure has been
designed for maximum cost efficiency. Postage, photocopying, our
PO box and website are all basic costs which allow Vegetarian Action
to exist and to keep vegetarian information "out there"
and available as widely as possible, and also provide us with a
platform from which we can undertake campaigns and projects to promote
vegetarianism on a broader scale. Annual donations from supporters
help us maintain these basic operations.
Vegetarian Action is driven by a vision
of bringing vegetarianism to the wider public. To do this, we undertake
campaigns, projects, and the development of awareness-raising and
educational materials. Such activities require significant financial
investment.
If you share this vision, you can help us achieve it by becoming
a supporter, making a one-off donation or by nominating
Vegetarian Action in your will (or otherwise) as a beneficiary.
All donations to Vegetarian Action are protected by our constitutional
document, a Trust Deed, which is a binding legal document. Vegetarian
Action's Trust Deed guarantees that your contribution can be used
for one purpose only: to promote vegetarianism.
This document sets out our not-for-profit basis. It specifies
that the funds we raise (including donations, plus any income or
profit derived from the organisation's activities) may only be used
in the pursuit of the Charitable Objects specified in the document
- that is, for "the promotion of vegetarianism as an ethical,
humane, healthy and ecologically sustainable way of life".
Our Trust Deed ensures that neither the Trustees nor any other
party can personally profit from the Trust. And it dictates that,
should Vegetarian Action ever cease to exist, any remaining funds
"shall be paid to a charitable institution in Australia
which has as a purpose or objects similar to the purpose or objects
of the [Vegetarian Action Trust Deed]".
At a time when powerful, profit-driven forces leave no stone unturned
and use highly misleading information to promote the consumption
of animal-derived foods, it is more important than ever to publicise
the advantages of a vegetarian diet - for people, for animals and
for the planet.
Supporter donations help fund Vegetarian Action's day to day operations,
but to undertake major public education requires a significant investment
beyond our everyday budget. Your Will or Bequest can assist in funding
large-scale projects to promote vegetarianism.
Bequests made to Vegetarian Action through wills or settlements
can help to challenge misinformation about, and insensitiveness
towards, the real needs and welfare of humans, animals and the environment.

Vegetarian Action invites our supporters to get involved in our
efforts to promote vegetarianism.
As a supporter, you can do this by helping at public events like
information stalls, by letterboxing and distributing flyers, by
assisting us with our website and other projects, and by telling
other people about Vegetarian Action and encouraging them to support
us too.
Getting involved helps to promote vegetarianism and can also be
a great way to meet other vegos.
Our Email Updates (supporters without email receive these
by post) keep you "in the loop" with details about forthcoming opportunities.
