The weather was warm, the crowds were out in force, and Vegetarian
Action was on the scene for the 2006 YHA Peace Festival held in
Light Square, Adelaide, on 17th September 2006.
Vegetarian Action's message to the crowds who attended the festival
was the close connection between the violence we're part of every
day - if we consume animal products - and the global struggle
for peace. In the words of the great Albert Schweitzer: "Not
until we extend the circle of our compassion to all living things,
shall we ourselves know peace."
In addition to a flyer tailored for the occasion - contrasting
the message 'Peace on Earth' with the graphic reality of the violence
done to food animals, and offering thought-provoking 'snippets'
about the connections between food and violence - Vegetarian Action
handed out general information about vegetarianism and veganism,
as well as some of our past campaign materials and the most popular
items - our 'Vego Eat Out Guide' and 'Vego Resource Guide', helping
people to put vegetarianism into practice locally.
It was a great opportunity to raise Vegetarian Action's public
profile and more importantly, to place vegetarianism squarely
on the agenda in the objective of world peace. Vegetarian Action
thanks our volunteers Jo, Gemma and Kyal who helped to make this
event possible for VA.
