The Channel 7 Adelaide Animal Expo was held
on March 8 - 10, 2008.
Alongside exhibits emphasising the treatment of
companion animals and others at which farm animals, reptiles and
other animals were handled by a constant stream of visitors -
with little regard for the impact on the animals - Vegetarian
Action offered a different perspective.
Centred on the slogan "Animals are my friends
- and I don't eat my friends" (a quotation from George
Bernard Shaw, writer and critic, 1856-1950), Vegetarian Action's
"Great Minds Think Alike"
posters and flyers offered a smorgasbord of the ideas of great
minds ranging from Plutarch to Leonardo Da Vinci and Franz Kafka
to Paul McCartney, each urging thoughtful readers to avoid the
use of animals for food.
As always, this food for thought was backed up by
resource materials including practical information such as vegan
cookbooks, 'Go Vegetarian' booklet and the Vego Eat Out Guide
(for those less confident in the kitchen).
